{"id":5006,"date":"2024-03-20T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-03-20T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=5006"},"modified":"2026-06-27T19:01:48","modified_gmt":"2026-06-28T02:01:48","slug":"mental-health-practitioner-lead","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/mental-health-practitioner-lead\/","title":{"rendered":"Mental Health Practitioner Lead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18727 (E S WFSE HMC)<br \/>\n21775 (NE S WFSE HMC)<br \/>\n23084 (NE H NI WFSE HMC)<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASS SERIES CONCEPT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Provide mental health diagnostic evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and case management services in a multi-disciplinary outpatient setting, and consultation and education to other mental health and health care professionals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lead Mental Health Practitioners and provide prescribed treatment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Regularly assign, instruct, and check the work of mental health practitioners and other staff; make recommendations regarding performance evaluations.<\/p>\n<p>Under general supervision, lead Mental Health Practitioners and other staff; perform clinical duties such as providing treatment, maintaining case records, participating in data collection and research, and case management functions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Orient, teach, lead and evaluate professionals, students, and\/or volunteers;<\/p>\n<p>Perform lead co-therapist duties;<\/p>\n<p>Debrief students and volunteers;<\/p>\n<p>Consult with Mental Health Practitioners about clinical issues;<\/p>\n<p>Perform Mental Health Practitioner duties; and<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LEGAL REQUIREMENT(S)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Licensed by the State of Washington as a Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Counselor, or Mental Health Counselor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Master&#8217;s Degree in behavioral sciences such as psychology, psychiatric nursing, occupational therapy, vocational or educational counseling, or social work<\/p>\n<p>AND<\/p>\n<p>Three years of experience as a Mental Health Practitioner or equivalent. Eligibility for recognition by the State of Washington as a clinical specialist, under the community mental health regulations, may be required. May be required to be eligible for a clinical faculty appointment and\/or allied health credentialing.<\/p>\n<p>Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASSIFICATION HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>11\/01\/2019: New to WFSE, Class adopted for UW contract classified staff per PERC decision Case #131267-E-19 to add this title to WFSE HMC bargaining unit, effective 05\/23\/2019.
