{"id":5004,"date":"2024-03-20T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-03-20T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=5004"},"modified":"2026-06-27T19:01:48","modified_gmt":"2026-06-28T02:01:48","slug":"mental-health-specialist-1","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/mental-health-specialist-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Mental Health Specialist 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18705 (NE S WFSE HMC)<br \/>\n22770 (NE H NI WFSE HMC)<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASS SERIES CONCEPT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mental Health Specialists provide prescribed treatment to in-patients on mental health units.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Provide prescribed in-patient mental health treatment, data collection and treatment planning as part of an inter-disciplinary treatment team.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under direct supervision of the Registered Nurse in charge; provide prescribed mental health treatment in an in-patient setting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Act as co-therapist with members of the inter-disciplinary team to develop treatment and discharge plans;<\/p>\n<p>Provide individual counseling regarding reality testing and the problem-solving of current life situation;<\/p>\n<p>Participate in group therapy and family conferences;<\/p>\n<p>Assist with obtaining psycho-social history from patients, family, referral sources and community agencies;<\/p>\n<p>Observe, assess and assist with physical restraint and seclusion procedures; maintain patient safety and provide physical care to patients;<\/p>\n<p>Document patients physical, mental and behavioral status;<\/p>\n<p>Monitor and report patient response to psychotropic medications;<\/p>\n<p>Consult with mental health agencies as required regarding treatment;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Associate of Arts Degree; AND two years of experience in a mental health setting.
