{"id":5002,"date":"2024-03-20T13:10:52","date_gmt":"2024-03-20T20:10:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=5002"},"modified":"2025-05-22T13:50:13","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T20:50:13","slug":"mental-health-specialist-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/classified-staff\/mental-health-specialist-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Mental Health Specialist 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18706 (NE S WFSE HMC)<br \/>\n22771 (NE H NI WFSE HMC)<\/p>\n<p><strong>BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Provide prescribed advanced in-patient mental health treatment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under general supervision of the Registered Nurse in charge, provide direction in crisis situations, clinical expertise in initiating care plans and in group or individual therapy; interpret the Involuntary Treatment Act and participate in the training of staff and students on the unit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Regularly assign, instruct and check the work of employees;<\/p>\n<p>Provide direction to Mental Health Specialist I;<\/p>\n<p>Initiate care plans and participate in discharge planning with the inter-disciplinary team;<\/p>\n<p>Obtain psycho-social history from patients, family, referral sources and community agencies;<\/p>\n<p>Interpret the Involuntary Treatment Act for the patient and family, community agencies;<\/p>\n<p>Provide liaison with authorities for initiating commitment procedures;<\/p>\n<p>Lead group therapy and family conferences;<\/p>\n<p>Provide intervention to eliminate safety hazards;<\/p>\n<p>Provide direction in managing the behavior of violent patients;<\/p>\n<p>Participate in the training and orientation of new staff and professional students; act as a member of committee to improve patient care standards;<\/p>\n<p>May participate in research projects;<\/p>\n<p>Perform the duties of Mental Health Specialist I;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bachelor&#8217;s Degree; AND one year as a Mental Health Specialist I, or equivalent; experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.<\/p>\n<p>Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASSIFICATION HISTORY\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>01\/21\/1983: New Class<br \/>\n07\/02\/1990: Revise MQ<br \/>\n06\/01\/2005: CSR Class Conversion<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP 18706 (NE S WFSE HMC) 22771 (NE H NI WFSE HMC) BASIC FUNCTION Provide prescribed advanced in-patient mental health treatment.
