{"id":4967,"date":"2024-03-20T11:55:19","date_gmt":"2024-03-20T18:55:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=4967"},"modified":"2025-05-22T13:57:30","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T20:57:30","slug":"nursery-worker","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/classified-staff\/nursery-worker\/","title":{"rendered":"Nursery Worker"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18541 (NE S WFSE Campuswide)<br \/>\n22669 (NE H NI WFSE Campuswide)<\/p>\n<p><strong>BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Propagate and care for trees, shrubs, and forage plants used in research, teaching, and\/or campus landscape projects.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under general supervision, perform nursery, greenhouse, or arboreta operations including soil analysis, receiving and shipping plants, and maintaining growth records on propagations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Recommend varieties and quantities of plants to be grown;<\/p>\n<p>Diagnose and treat plant diseases and pests;<\/p>\n<p>Prepare bedding areas by sterilizing and mixing soils, cleaning bedding tables and sterilizing pots and containers used in nursery culture;<\/p>\n<p>Propagate plants by cutting, seeding, grafting, layering and budding;<\/p>\n<p>Plan, prepare, plant, feed, water, prune and maintain flower beds and landscaped areas;<\/p>\n<p>Analyze soil for pH content; take tissue samples for analysis;<\/p>\n<p>Receive and ship plants, seeds and bulbs; collect seeds from plants; maintain growth records;<\/p>\n<p>Control environment by regulating heat, light, shade, humidity, etc., in greenhouse or nursery;<\/p>\n<p>Assist in the collection of research data or prepare teaching materials and assist in demonstrations;<\/p>\n<p>May repair, maintain and operate a variety of grounds mechanical equipment, systems, and apparatus;<\/p>\n<p>May direct the work of others;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Three years of gardening or groundskeeping experience.<\/p>\n<p>Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASSIFICATION HISTORY\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>02\/07\/1973: New Class<br \/>\n05\/17\/1973: Revise Class<br \/>\n08\/04\/1989: Revise Class<br \/>\n06\/01\/2005: CSR Class Conversion<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP 18541 (NE S WFSE Campuswide) 22669 (NE H NI WFSE Campuswide) BASIC FUNCTION Propagate and care for trees, shrubs, and forage plants used in research, [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":96,"featured_media":0,"parent":12,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_lmt_disableupdate":"no","_lmt_disable":"no","footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-4967","page","type-page","status-publish","format-standard","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 -
