{"id":4895,"date":"2024-03-06T12:42:27","date_gmt":"2024-03-06T20:42:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=4895"},"modified":"2025-06-10T13:49:19","modified_gmt":"2025-06-10T20:49:19","slug":"orthopaedic-technician-ii","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/classified-staff\/orthopaedic-technician-ii\/","title":{"rendered":"Orthopaedic Technician 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18159 (NE S SEIU 925 HCP\/LT)<br \/>\n22531 (NE H NI SEIU 925 HCP\/LT)<\/p>\n<p>18704 (NE S WFSE HMC)<br \/>\n22769 (NE H NI WFSE HMC)<\/p>\n<p><strong>BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Assist with complex casting such as fracture reduction casting; apply, mend, and remove a variety of casts, braces, splints, and dressings; assist physician with complex surgical procedures such as arthroscopy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under general supervision, apply, mend, and remove complex castings and splints; assist physician with complex surgical procedures such as arthroscopy; administer medications, suture wounds and perform telephone triage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Assist physician with complex casting, arthroscopic procedures, pin replacement\/removal, and external fixator removal;<\/p>\n<p>Perform procedures including suturing, instillation of medications for local anesthesia, wound debridement, irrigations, and dressing changes;<\/p>\n<p>Perform stress tests to check for joint stability;<\/p>\n<p>Perform basic laboratory procedures including venipuncture and wound cultures;<\/p>\n<p>Monitor patient&#8217;s condition following casting; recognize emergent\/urgent problems and provide telephone triage for patients with cast problems;<\/p>\n<p>Perform the work of an Orthopaedic Technician 1;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Completion of Orthopaedic Technologist Certified (OTC) Certification program accredited by the National Board for Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists, Inc.
