{"id":4853,"date":"2024-03-06T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-03-06T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=4853"},"modified":"2026-06-27T19:01:12","modified_gmt":"2026-06-28T02:01:12","slug":"patient-services-specialist-supervisor","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/patient-services-specialist-supervisor\/","title":{"rendered":"Patient Services Specialist &#8211; Supervisor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18095 (NE S SEIU 925 Supv)<br \/>\n22505 (NE H NI SEIU 925 Supv)<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASS SERIES CONCEPT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Coordinate the daily patient flow and provide patient support services in an admitting, registration or patient care area in a medical center.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Supervise staff in the Patient Services Specialists class series, and\/or other assigned staff, direct the day-to-day clerical support operations and perform the work of supervised staff.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With delegated authority, interview, recommend selection of applicants, conduct training, assign and schedule work, act upon leave requests, conduct performance evaluations and recommend disciplinary actions.<\/p>\n<p>Under general direction, direct and perform the clerical and technical functions of assigned admitting, registration or patient care area (s).<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Interview applicants and make recommendations for hire;<\/p>\n<p>Train and orient new employees and\/or volunteers to department;<\/p>\n<p>Assign employee schedules, establish plan for emergency staff coverage and act upon leave requests;<\/p>\n<p>May manage staff records including timekeeping records, obtain appropriate approvals and submit payroll.<\/p>\n<p>Review and correct the work performed by others for compliance with established procedures;<\/p>\n<p>Conduct employee performance evaluations;<\/p>\n<p>Recommend disciplinary actions;<\/p>\n<p>Prepare reports, manages relevant databases and data;<\/p>\n<p>Identify and resolve problems or unusual situations; recommend changes to work flow, assignments, policies, procedures, etc. as necessary;<\/p>\n<p>Monitor and evaluate policies and procedures to suggest operational changes;<\/p>\n<p>Coordinate specialized departmental activities;<\/p>\n<p>Assists in the preparation and maintenance of provider and clinic schedules;<\/p>\n<p>May participate in budget preparation and administration;<\/p>\n<p>May work with management, ED\/QA and other staff on process improvements, developing training courses and planning ED\/QA activities for staff.<\/p>\n<p>May Participate in monitoring quality assurance plans;<\/p>\n<p>Perform the work of the Patient Services Specialist levels 1, 2, 3, Lead and QA\/Educator positions.<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bachelor&#8217;s Degree in a medically related or public relations field AND Four years of experience as a Patient Services Specialist<\/p>\n<p>OR High School graduation or equivalent and four years experience as a Patient Services Specialist and a UW Supervisory Skill Certificate;<\/p>\n<p>Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASSIFICATION HISTORY\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>01\/01\/2007: New Class<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP 18095 (NE S SEIU 925 Supv) 22505 (NE H NI SEIU 925 Supv) CLASS SERIES CONCEPT Coordinate the daily patient flow and provide patient support services in an admitting, registration or patient care area in a medical center.
