{"id":4791,"date":"2024-03-01T11:43:23","date_gmt":"2024-03-01T19:43:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=4791"},"modified":"2025-05-22T14:43:32","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T21:43:32","slug":"physician-assistant-advanced-registered-nurse-practitioner","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/classified-staff\/physician-assistant-advanced-registered-nurse-practitioner\/","title":{"rendered":"Physician Assistant\/Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18935 (E S SEIU 1199NW HMC PA-ARNP)<br \/>\n21792 (NE S SEIU 1199NW HMC PA-ARNP)<br \/>\n23191 (NE H NI SEIU 1199NW HMC PA-ARNP)<\/p>\n<p>21203 (E S 1199NW Res\/HH)<br \/>\n21201 (NE S SEIU 1199NW Res\/HH)<br \/>\n23216 (NE H NI SEIU 1199NW Res\/HH)<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASS SERIES CONCEPT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Positions in this series perform examinations, establish diagnoses, and determine appropriate treatment or referral for medical problems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Provide medical care to patients including examinations, diagnosis, prescription and treatment within the scope of applicable licensure.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under general supervision of an attending physician, incumbents examine, diagnose and treat patients within the scope of applicable licensure.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As a member of an integrated health care team, record medical histories, perform physical examinations, order and\/or perform diagnostic tests, evaluate test results, establish diagnoses and prescribe medication and\/or treatments;<\/p>\n<p>Perform minor surgical procedures such as suturing lacerations and incising and draining abscesses, including administration of local anesthesia;<\/p>\n<p>Provide health education; assist with proper utilization of community social and health care resources;<\/p>\n<p>Assist in the clinical training of various levels of health care professionals, participate in continuing education;<\/p>\n<p>Participate in research activities; conduct literature reviews, collect and collate research data; assist with the preparation of materials for publication;<\/p>\n<p>Evaluate daily staffing levels and adjust patient-flow accordingly;<\/p>\n<p>May lead and\/or provide direction to clinical support staff;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Licensure as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in the State of Washington or a Physician&#8217;s Assistant (PA) in the State of Washington, or equivalent legal license\/certification.<\/p>\n<p>Must be eligible to receive hospital staff appointments for adjunct staff membership by the organized medical staff of the hospital under Medical Staff By-Laws for Hospital-based positions.<\/p>\n<p>Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASSIFICATION HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>02\/01\/2007: New Class<br \/>\n02\/01\/2016: Shorten title from Health Care Specialist-Inpat-Emerg to Health Care Specialist and merge employees from Health Care Specialist (8933) into job code (8935)<br \/>\n12\/17\/2016: New to 1199NW: 10\/16\/2017: Class adopted for UW contract classified staff per PERC decision to add this title to 1199NW Research RN\/Hall Health RN bargaining unit, (Case #128435-E-16).
