CLASS SERIES CONCEPT<\/strong><\/p>\n

Performs duties in support of the operation of a clinical laboratory, such as conducting laboratory testing and preparation or set up of testing specimens.<\/p>\n

BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Perform at a technical level, various routine laboratory testing and\/or prepare specimens or setup specimens for laboratory testing, and other laboratory work which supports the operation of a clinical laboratory.<\/p>\n

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under general supervision, perform routine laboratory tests, demonstrate and train others in basic laboratory skills; verify the quality of reagents and media. And\/or is routinely assigned special projects that contribute to the development of new processes and procedures of the laboratory.<\/p>\n

TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Perform routine clinical laboratory tests such as kit assays, bedside monitoring, automated chemistry tests, and cell counts on body fluids;<\/p>\n

Maintain cell culture systems, grow and harvest viral stocks, titer each lot of stock virus, and prepare viral lysates;<\/p>\n

Perform work related to special projects which contribute to the development of new processes and procedures in the laboratory;<\/p>\n

Operate, calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment such as spectrophotometer, refractometer, conductivity meter, automated chemistry analyzer, bedside monitoring equipment, microscope, electronic cell counter, coagulation instrumentation;<\/p>\n

Troubleshoot and eliminate contamination or toxicity problems in cell cultures and media; perform quality control on reagents and viral lysates;<\/p>\n

Participate in demonstrating routine laboratory techniques to students and new employees;<\/p>\n

Perform the work of a Clinical Laboratory Technician I;<\/p>\n

Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/u><\/p>\n

High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience.<\/p>\n

Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n
