{"id":4778,"date":"2024-02-28T12:29:53","date_gmt":"2024-02-28T20:29:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=4778"},"modified":"2025-05-22T14:44:25","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T21:44:25","slug":"piano-technician","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/classified-staff\/piano-technician\/","title":{"rendered":"Piano Technician"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>17420 (NE S SEIU 925 Non Supv)<br \/>\n22314 (NE H NI SEIU 925 Non Supv)<\/p>\n<p><strong>DEFINITION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tune, maintain, repair and rebuild pianos and similar musical instruments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tune pianos and harpsichords by varying changes in pitch of strings utilizing a tuning hammer and other tools;<\/p>\n<p>Rebuild pianos and harpsichords, including unstringing, removing and replacing string frames, repairing sound board, bridges, etc.; repair pianos by replacing, adapting, making and adjusting wood, metal, felt, leather, and plastic parts;<\/p>\n<p>Diagnose quality or condition of pianos and harpsichords by inspection, testing and analyzing opinions of the musician users;<\/p>\n<p>Keep records and perform related duties as required;<\/p>\n<p>Use and maintain hand tools and power tools such as drill presses, sanders, grinders, power saws, etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Completion of a recognized training program as a piano technician; OR full journey status as a piano technician in the Piano Technician Guild; OR three years applicable work experience.<\/p>\n<p>Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis.
