{"id":4757,"date":"2024-02-28T11:31:46","date_gmt":"2024-02-28T19:31:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=4757"},"modified":"2025-05-22T14:50:11","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T21:50:11","slug":"police-dispatch-supervisor","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/classified-staff\/police-dispatch-supervisor\/","title":{"rendered":"Police Dispatcher Supervisor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>17272 (NE S SEIU 925 Supv)<br \/>\n22268 (NE H NI SEIU 925 Supv)<\/p>\n<p><strong>BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Within the University of Washington Police Department Communications Center, supervise a staff of police dispatchers who receive, screen and prioritize emergency (E-911) and non-emergency telephone calls for service from the public requiring law enforcement attention and relay to police officers or command personnel, as appropriate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under general direction, with delegated authority, interview and recommend selection of police dispatcher applicants, conduct training, assign and schedule work, act upon leave requests, conduct annual performance evaluations and recommend disciplinary actions.<\/p>\n<p>Coordinate the utilization of various technical databases and software associated with specific federal and state law enforcement information systems, including overseeing all organizational Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) equipment and functions, acquisition forms and expenditures.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With delegated authority, interview and recommend selection of applicants, train new employees, assign and schedule work, act upon leave requests, conduct annual performance evaluations and recommend disciplinary action;<\/p>\n<p>Assist in creation, implementation, and maintenance of policy and procedures for the communications center;<\/p>\n<p>Analyze service and equipment needs for appropriate work flow, assess and allocate resources to achieve objectives; make recommendations and take action to improve system performance and efficiency;<\/p>\n<p>Assess training needs, determine training approach, develop course materials and conduct training for communications personnel concerning equipment usage;<\/p>\n<p>Implement and maintain security policies and standards within the various databases according to access levels and authorization to maintain confidentiality and integrity of the computer system;<\/p>\n<p>Identify and implement code changes and monitor service agreements; act as liaison to vendors responsible for installing hardware\/software and telecommunication equipment or systems within the communications center; evaluate new products, document characteristics and make recommendations;<\/p>\n<p>Represent the department at quarterly Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) meetings at local 911 centers as liaison and primary contact;<\/p>\n<p>Collaborate with the Records Unit in order to maintain the effectiveness of the computer aided dispatch and records management systems;<\/p>\n<p>Use knowledge and experience to operate equipment, ACCESS computer, telephones, Enhanced 911 lines and associated recording equipment to receive and transmit law enforcement and related public safety information.
