BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Provide advanced respiratory therapy to patients.<\/p>\n

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under general supervision, perform advanced respiratory care procedures in intensive care units, general care areas, clinics and emergency services.<\/p>\n

TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Provide advanced respiratory care as delineated in the department procedure manuals and as ordered by the physician;<\/p>\n

Consult with physicians and nurses regarding the effectiveness of the respiratory care provided to the patients;<\/p>\n

Provide instruction in respiratory care procedures and equipment to patients, families and staff;<\/p>\n

Document clinical activities in patient charts;<\/p>\n

May be responsible for instruction of respiratory care students; assist with the orientation of new staff and the continuing education of current staff;<\/p>\n

May perform the work of a Respiratory Care Associate;<\/p>\n

Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Completion of a respiratory care program approved by the State of Washington Department of Health.<\/p>\n

Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n

LEGAL REQUIREMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n

Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (Registered Respiratory Therapist) by the State of Washington.<\/p>\n
