CLASS SERIES CONCEPT<\/strong><\/p>\n

Perform pulmonary function tests on patients; record and report results.<\/p>\n

DEFINITION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Prepare patients for and perform routine pulmonary function tests; record data for analysis.<\/p>\n

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under direct supervision, perform routine pulmonary function tests such as spirometry and lung volume<\/p>\n

TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Operate pulmonary function equipment while conducting tests such as spirometry, lung volume, diffusing capacity and flow volume loops;<\/p>\n

Draw and analyze arterial blood gas specimens;<\/p>\n

Screen spirometric tests in outpatient clinics or at bedside;<\/p>\n

Administer aerosolized bronchodilators;<\/p>\n

Administer topical or subcutaneous local anesthetics;<\/p>\n

Collect data; calculate and report results;<\/p>\n

Schedule patients for tests;<\/p>\n

May assist physicians and\/or higher-level Pulmonary Function Technologists in the performance of complex and elaborate testing;<\/p>\n

Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Completion of an accredited pulmonary function program<\/p>\n

OR<\/p>\n

One year of pulmonary function technologist experience.<\/p>\n

Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n
