BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Implement an entire recreational\/sports program which is part of a larger recreational\/sports program system (Examples are intramural and extramural football and basketball, campus game rooms and nonrevenue-producing sports such as skiing or lacrosse) or assist in coordinating the operations of a large and\/or multi-sport revenue-producing facility; plan, monitor expenses to help ensure that program budget is maintained.<\/p>\n

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Professional level of the series. Positions in this class are distinguished from the Recreation Coordinator I class by responsibility for organization, direction and implementation of complete recreational nonrevenue-producing sports programs or for assisting in coordinating the operations of a large and\/or multi-sport facility, such as a waterfront activities center, intramural activities center, golfing range or swimming complex; assists with budget preparation\/oversight for programs in a recreational sports program system.<\/p>\n

TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Plan, organize, and direct complete on- and\/or off-campus intramural and extramural recreational\/ sports activities in coordination with student committees, sports clubs and social agencies;<\/p>\n

Prepare schedules and facilities to support intramural or extramural competition; Recommend and initiate programs or changes\/improvements to existing programs;<\/p>\n

Administer procedures for equipment purchase and inventories; arrange for equipment repairs and maintenance;<\/p>\n

Assist in planning and administering operating budgets for programs; Publicize and promote recreational nonrevenue-producing sports activities;<\/p>\n

Prepare written reports to assess facilities and evaluate programs; participate in special studies related to the impact of the recreational\/sports program on the institution;<\/p>\n

Recruit, train, direct and evaluate intramural sports officials and volunteers for implementation of a program. Assist in the hiring, training and direction of intramural activity or sports facility program assistants and office assistants and volunteers for implementation of a program;<\/p>\n

Implement department and program emergency response procedures for all activities. Initiate, implement and coordinate appropriate risk management practices and record keeping for the conduct of club sports or other programmed activities.<\/p>\n

Make travel arrangements for clubs via the University Motor Pool in accordance with University policy.<\/p>\n

Coordinate out-of-state travel arrangements for clubs. Perform work of Recreation Coordinator I;<\/p>\n

May assign, instruct and check the work of assigned employees;<\/p>\n

Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Physical Education or equivalent, and two years experience in Physical Education or Recreation. Two Years of additional full-time experience in recreational or intramural sports programs may substitute for the educational requirements.<\/p>\n

Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n
