{"id":4558,"date":"2024-02-05T11:49:47","date_gmt":"2024-02-05T19:49:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=4558"},"modified":"2025-05-22T15:08:57","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T22:08:57","slug":"refrigeration-mechanic","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/classified-staff\/refrigeration-mechanic\/","title":{"rendered":"Refrigeration Mechanic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18860 (NE S WFSE Trades)<br \/>\n22852 (NE H NI WFSE Trades)<\/p>\n<p><strong>DEFINITION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Perform skilled journey &#8211; level work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration, air-conditioning, and chilled water equipment, systems, and controls.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Positions within this class require full four-year journey-level refrigeration mechanic schooling and knowledge. Incumbents must be capable of working independently on all refrigeration maintenance and repair projects.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Install, operate, maintain, and repair all types of refrigeration systems, including air-conditioning, chilled water systems, and refrigeration units.<\/p>\n<p>Diagnose, inspect, trouble shoot, and overhaul electrical control circuits, temperature and pressure controls, and all related refrigeration components using manuals, blueprints, and equipment knowledge;<\/p>\n<p>Test coils, valves, and connections to determine that systems are leak proof and properly adjusted;<\/p>\n<p>Operate and maintain cooling towers, including water treatment systems;<\/p>\n<p>Recharge units with proper refrigerant when necessary, and maintain and repair compressor units and departmental research refrigeration equipment;<\/p>\n<p>Test, make measurements, and adjust all types of heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration systems for most efficient performance;<\/p>\n<p>May lead or instruct helpers as required;<\/p>\n<p>May perform work in other trades;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a refrigeration mechanic; OR full journey status as a refrigeration mechanic in a union; OR four years&#8217; applicable work experience. Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis.
