CLASS SERIES CONCEPT<\/strong><\/p>\n

This classification series defines speech-language pathology work performed at Harborview Medical Center. Positions in this job assess patient status, evaluate, plan, and administer speech and language services.<\/p>\n

BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Provide professional speech and language services to individuals with swallowing, cognitive and communicative disabilities such as cognitive communication disorders, dysphagia, language or articulation disorders, hearing loss or impairments, dysfluency, voice disorders, or motor speech disorders.<\/p>\n

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under general supervision, independently plan, evaluate, and treat patients. Collaborate with other disciplines to provide safe and effective patient care.<\/p>\n

TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Evaluate hearing, language, cognition, swallowing, communication and speech abilities and identify areas of impairment using various diagnostic tools;<\/p>\n

Develop treatment programs in collaboration with physicians, other speech-language pathologists, audiologists, psychologists, dietitians, respiratory therapists, social workers, physical and occupational therapists, counselors and\/or teachers;<\/p>\n

Use appropriate treatment methods for receptive and expressive language disorders, cognitive communication disorders, swallowing disorders, articulation and voice disorders, stuttering and develop alternative means of communication (e.g., language board and sign language);<\/p>\n

Use equipment and other specialized apparatus for assessment and treatment;<\/p>\n

Complete documentation according to workgroup standards and in a timely manner;<\/p>\n

Participate in program development, process improvement, or quality improvement projects for the department as assigned by senior staff or manager;<\/p>\n

Participate in onboarding or orientation of staff; and<\/p>\n

Perform other duties as required.<\/p>\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Licensed by the State of Washington as a Speech Language Pathologist,<\/p>\n

AND<\/p>\n

Master\u2019s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communicative Disorders or equivalent degree approved by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association,<\/p>\n

AND<\/p>\n

A Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech\/Language and Hearing Association.<\/p>\n

Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n
