{"id":4398,"date":"2024-01-17T12:49:57","date_gmt":"2024-01-17T20:49:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=4398"},"modified":"2025-05-23T11:03:11","modified_gmt":"2025-05-23T18:03:11","slug":"telephone-communications-operator","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/classified-staff\/telephone-communications-operator\/","title":{"rendered":"Telephone Communications Operator"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18631 (NE S WFSE HMC)<br \/>\n22707 (NE H NI WFSE HMC)<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASS SERIES CONCEPT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Facilitate telephone communications operations in an institution setting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Receive and route incoming calls on an institution telephone switching system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Single class &#8211; no series.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Receive and route incoming telephone calls to appropriate departments or personnel, place local and long distance calls; transfer calls; record and relay messages;<\/p>\n<p>Maintain log of calls as required by institution policy and procedures;<\/p>\n<p>Operate TTY\/TDY system and facsimile process transfer equipment;<\/p>\n<p>Respond to telephone and in-person requests for information;<\/p>\n<p>Maintain institution locator files; locate personnel when necessary;<\/p>\n<p>Carry out institution emergency telephone procedures when necessary;<\/p>\n<p>Perform clerical duties such as typing, filing and receiving and routing visitors in conjunction with telephone duties;<\/p>\n<p>May show substitute operator how to operate equipment;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>High School Diploma, or GED Certificate; AND six months of relevant work experience.
