{"id":4338,"date":"2024-01-12T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-01-12T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=4338"},"modified":"2026-06-27T18:59:16","modified_gmt":"2026-06-28T01:59:16","slug":"vascular-sonographer","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/vascular-sonographer\/","title":{"rendered":"Vascular Sonographer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18435 (NE S SEIU 925 HCP\/LT)<br \/>\n22612 (NE H NI SEIU 925 HCP\/LT)<\/p>\n<p>18931 (NE S SEIU 1199NW HMC P\/T)<br \/>\n23081 (NE H NI SEIU 1199NW HMC P\/T)<\/p>\n<p><strong>BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a laboratory, patient care unit, and\/or surgical setting, perform diagnostic vascular examinations independent of physician supervision; interpret and present diagnostic findings to referring healthcare providers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under general supervision, perform professional level, highly complex diagnostic vascular sonography examinations independent of physician oversight and provide diagnostic interpretation based on physiological and imaging data.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Perform, evaluate and provide diagnostic interpretation of non-invasive and invasive ultrasound and physiological examinations on patients and research participants in the areas of extracranial cerebrovascular, intracranial cerebrovascular, peripheral venous, peripheral arterial, and abdominal vessels;<\/p>\n<p>Under physician supervision, perform therapeutic procedures, such as pseudoaneurysm compression;<\/p>\n<p>Prepare patient for examination; obtain the patient history through interview and review of the chart, explain testing procedures; perform physical examination;<\/p>\n<p>Interpret and present preliminary examination findings to patients and discuss the severity of the findings and potential treatment options to prepare the patient for discussions with his\/her physician; document all discussions with patients;<\/p>\n<p>Interpret and present preliminary examination findings to referring physicians; provide additional information as requested; dictate final report;<\/p>\n<p>Schedule and prioritize patient examinations;<\/p>\n<p>Select and perform appropriate examinations as necessary based on the patient assessment and initial physician order, to provide accurate representation of patient&#8217;s anatomy and pathophysiology as determined during the ongoing examination; analyze, interpret, record and report findings;<\/p>\n<p>Ensure examination equipment is maintained and functioning appropriately before the onset of an examination; identify and report equipment malfunctions;<\/p>\n<p>Participate in research projects;<\/p>\n<p>Instruct healthcare providers, physicians, residents, staff, and vendors on non-invasive vascular examinations;<\/p>\n<p>Present patient examinations cases at regular medical care conferences for quality assurances purposes;<\/p>\n<p>Complete hospital procedure charge documents;<\/p>\n<p>Calculate accuracy of examinations performed by comparison to radiological or intraoperative findings and submit report to supervisor for review;<\/p>\n<p>Evaluate and critique non-invasive vascular equipment for vendors;<\/p>\n<p>Conduct patient examinations during surgical procedures in the operating room;<\/p>\n<p>Train Vascular Technologist Trainees;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Completion of a training program accredited by the American Medical Association &#8211; Committee on Allied Health Education (AMA-CAHEA) for vascular ultrasound<\/p>\n<p>AND<\/p>\n<p>Possess current registration as a Registered Vascular Technologist through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.<\/p>\n<p>Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASSIFICATION HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>05\/16\/1999: New Class: Vascular Technologist<br \/>\n07\/01\/2007: Revised new class code: (formerly 6435) effective 07\/01\/2007<br \/>\n06\/22\/2011: New to SEIU 925 (Case # 23389\u2013C\u201310\u20131434)<br \/>\n07\/01\/2014: New Class Title;Class adopted for UW contract classified staff per PERC decision to add this title to SEIU 1199NW Professional\/Technical \u2013 Imaging Technologist\/Sonographer bargaining unit, effective 11\/27\/2013 (Case #25969-E-13-3817).
