BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Maintain cleanliness of engine room and machinery, assist in routine maintenance on an ocean research ship of approximately 2000 gross tons.<\/p>\n

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under direct supervision, clean engine room equipment and assist in routine maintenance.<\/p>\n

TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Perform general clean-up of engineering spaces, machinery, and unlicensed engineer’s living space;<\/p>\n

Assist as help in routine maintenance and repair of machinery;<\/p>\n

Learn the routine of lubricating machinery, taking readings of operating machinery, and methods of keeping operating records;<\/p>\n

Stand security watches;<\/p>\n

Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Legal Requirements<\/p>\n

Entry rating U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner’s document endorsed & “Wiper” or a temporary permit to sail as wiper.<\/p>\n

Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n
