CLASS SERIES CONCEPT<\/strong><\/p>\n

Produce talk\/web segments for KUOW\u2019s daily news magazines. This is the second level in a two-level series; the preceding level is Producer 2 \u2013 Talk Show.<\/p>\n

BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Produce multimedia content for KUOW radio programming with a focus on daily news talk shows including broadcast audio, web content, video, podcasts and events.<\/p>\n

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under the supervision of a Senior Managing Producer, produce local news segments and assist in managing the editorial process for broadcast in KUOW\u2019s daily news magazines. Coach and direct production team to deliver segments on a daily basis.<\/p>\n

Seek out new voices to appear on air, develop local sources, and work with Supervising Producer to conceptualize and plan long-term and special coverage. Develop pitches and research topics.<\/p>\n

Edit Producer and Host content for broadcast as assigned.<\/p>\n

Interact with audience via social media platforms; may develop and write online posts and broadcast spots of program content.<\/p>\n

Serve as a first-responder in breaking news situations that my require evening and weekend work.<\/p>\n

TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Typical working titles: \u201cProducer,\u201d \u201cTalk Show Producer\u201d or \u201cProducer 3 \u2013 Talk Show\u201d;<\/p>\n

As needed, perform the work of a Producer 2 \u2013 Talk Show, including<\/p>\n

Track news, research topics and pitch segment ideas based on KUOW editorial priorities;
\nPre-interview and book guests, provide host with background research;
\nWrite host introductions and interview questions;
\nPublish online content, possibly including social media posts.
\nGather sound and produce interviews in the field as assigned;
\nDirect or call-screen the live program segments as assigned; and
\nPerform other duties as assigned.<\/p>\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bachelor\u2019s degree and three years of professional broadcast journalism experience of increasing responsibility with a background in talk programming and radio production. Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n

Requires knowledge of professional broadcast and journalistic standards and practices.<\/p>\n
