CLASS SERIES CONCEPT<\/strong><\/p>\n

Prepare and present news reports via audio, print, or video for all KUOW platforms, including broadcast, web, social media, and podcasts. Collect and analyze information to write and voice scripts for newscasts.<\/p>\n

This is a single-class series.\u00a0 The class is distinguished from Reporter 1, 2, and 3 by the emphasis on voicing newscasts for recurring shows and segments, daily relationship with broadcast listeners, and breaking news.<\/p>\n

BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Plan, report, write, and edit news content, and voice newscasts for KUOW platforms.<\/p>\n

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Work under general direction to produce, write and voice recurring and breaking news.\u00a0 Independently write, edit, produce and voice multiple daily newscasts. Monitor sources such as wires, press contacts and social media for breaking news, re-package coverage produced by others for newscasts and meet hourly and daily filing schedule. Handle moderately complex editorial decisions and refer more complex issues to content leadership.<\/p>\n

TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Write, edit, produce, and voice multiple daily newscasts and breaking news on schedule.<\/p>\n

Monitor sources such as wires and social media for breaking news.<\/p>\n

Establish a wide variety of contacts to develop sources for news gathering.<\/p>\n

Produce features and interviews as assigned.<\/p>\n

Perform other duties as assigned.<\/p>\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bachelor\u2019s degree and three years of professional broadcast journalism experience.<\/p>\n

Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n

CIVIL SERVICE EXEMPTION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Public Information: Managerial or professional level positions having substantial responsibility for planning and directing the development and communication of information designed to keep the public informed of the institution\u2019s programs, accomplishments, and point of view. Individuals exercise discretion in determining content of written copy. Other duties may include creating ideas, laying out artwork, contacting media representatives, and representing the institution directly before the general public.<\/p>\n
