Coordinate support services for a variety of courses; provide professional\/technical support requiring knowledge of a scientific discipline, electronics and\/or engineering.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Senior-level class responsible for coordinating instructional support activities, designing\/developing instructional programs or designing and constructing equipment. Under general direction, provide support to courses requiring an emphasis in complex design and development tasks such as developing experiments\/demonstrations where only general theoretical concepts are identified, designing instructional support applications based on current research findings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Inspect, test, adjust and do major repair of scientific and laboratory support equipment;<\/p>\n<p>Develop scientific instructional programs, demonstration models and laboratory procedures;<\/p>\n<p>Design, construct and test equipment used for lecture demonstrations or laboratory experiments;<\/p>\n<p>Coordinate the scientific preparation for laboratory programs and field- oriented courses using safety procedures in handling hazardous materials such as acids, pesticides, radiation, etc.;<\/p>\n<p>Coordinate laboratory support, maintenance and store room functions;<\/p>\n<p>Evaluate equipment specifications and make purchase recommendations;<\/p>\n<p>Provide training for students and faculty in a specialty area such as a specific computer software program, holography, ceramics, manufacturing and microbiological techniques, and methods of biochemical analysis, etc.;<\/p>\n<p>Maintain computerized inventory;<\/p>\n<p>Perform the duties of Scientific Instructional Technician I;<\/p>\n<p>May act as coordinator of shop or laboratory controlling all equipment, chemicals and use of space;<\/p>\n<p>May design\/develop computer software for use in analytical laboratory courses;<\/p>\n<p>May direct assigned personnel;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Bachelor&#8217;s Degree with major study in a basic applied science AND two years of training, formal education and\/or research, training or service laboratory operations experience.<\/p>\n<p>Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASSIFICATION HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>10\/12\/73: New Class<br \/>\n11\/13\/75: Revise Code, Title &amp; Class<br \/>\n06\/17\/83: Revise Title &amp; Class<br \/>\n03\/03\/89: Revise Class<br \/>\n11\/16\/02: New to SEIU<br \/>\n06\/01\/05: CSR Class Conversion<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP 17785 (NE S SEIU 925 Non Supv) 22438 (NE H NI SEIU 925 Non Supv) BASIC FUNCTION Develop scientific instructional programs in a basic or [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":49,"featured_media":0,"parent":12,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_lmt_disableupdate":"no","_lmt_disable":"no","footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-3879","page","type-page","status-publish","format-standard","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 -
