CLASS SERIES CONCEPT<\/strong><\/p>\n

Develop and produce stories and their essential elements. Key aspects of production include creating the pitch, script, tone, audio and\/or video components for KUOW programming. Generate audio, print, or video content that will be seen and heard across various KUOW platforms, such as broadcast, web, social media, and podcasts.<\/p>\n

This is the first level of a four-level series; the next level is Producer 2.<\/p>\n

BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Assist in basic production of stories and segments for KUOW programming. Complete assigned tasks under direct supervision to support podcast or broadcast programming. This is an entry level position that allows for development of production skills and knowledge through experience and application.<\/p>\n

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Work under direct supervision to complete assigned tasks to support podcast or broadcast programs. Rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform aspects of production with beginner knowledge of the subject matter. Training and assistance are provided to complete assignments. Refer issues to higher-level staff.<\/p>\n

TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Assist in conducting background research.<\/p>\n

Work with higher-level staff to track news and pitch story ideas based on KUOW editorial priorities.<\/p>\n

Conduct pre-interviews and draft scripts and interview questions.<\/p>\n

Assist in gathering audio.<\/p>\n

Shoot and edit video for KUOW.<\/p>\n

Build basic multi-track editing mixes and drafts audio.<\/p>\n

Perform other duties as assigned.<\/p>\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/h5>\n

Bachelor\u2019s degree and one year of journalism experience.<\/p>\n

Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n

CIVIL SERVICE EXEMPTION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Public Information: Managerial or professional level positions having substantial responsibility for planning and directing the development and communication of information designed to keep the public informed of the institution\u2019s programs, accomplishments, and point of view. Individuals exercise discretion in determining content of written copy. Other duties may include creating ideas, laying out artwork, contacting media representatives, and representing the institution directly before the general public.<\/p>\n
