CLASS SERIES CONCEPT<\/strong><\/p>\n

Provide daily updates to KUOW digital content in alignment with the station\u2019s editorial objectives. Collaborate with staff to edit and adapt journalism for our digital platforms.<\/p>\n

This is the first level of a two-level series; the next level is Digital Editor\/Reporter 2.<\/p>\n

BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Report, write and edit regular news updates for KUOW digital content. Package news from broadcast and podcast products for digital publishing. Ensure information is accurate and clearly communicates news and stories to the public.<\/p>\n

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Work under direct supervision to complete assigned tasks. Package news for digital publishing. Copyedit and write to Associated Press (AP) and station standards.<\/p>\n

TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Adhere to the station News Code of Ethics and Fair Use guidelines in producing content.<\/p>\n

Work with staff and external partners to package news and for digital publishing.<\/p>\n

Copyedit and write to AP style and station standards. Select and edit visuals (photos, graphics, etc.) to enhance written content, and secure permissions and licenses as necessary.<\/p>\n

Conduct regular and systematic reviews of digital content.<\/p>\n

Ensure compliance with federal, university, and station policies.<\/p>\n

Manage and prioritize all material exchange of all media files (audio, digital, and text files) and maintain accurate links to affiliates and partners.<\/p>\n

Report and write daily and breaking news stories as assigned.<\/p>\n

Collaborate with staff to adapt stories and interviews for digital audiences.<\/p>\n

May pitch and report enterprise and feature stories as time allows.<\/p>\n

Perform other duties as assigned.<\/p>\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bachelor\u2019s degree and two years of professional journalism experience.<\/p>\n

Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n

CIVIL SERVICE EXEMPTION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Public Information: Managerial or professional level positions having substantial responsibility for planning and directing the development and communication of information designed to keep the public informed of the institution\u2019s programs, accomplishments, and point of view. Individuals exercise discretion in determining content of written copy. Other duties may include creating ideas, laying out artwork, contacting media representatives, and representing the institution directly before the general public.<\/p>\n
