Update on SafeCampus phone line coverage

The University of Washington has been incredibly fortunate to rely on Harborview’s Transfer Center staffed by RNs with special training in trauma to pick up after hour calls to the SafeCampus line outside of normal business hours. Each year, hundreds of UW community members have benefited from their compassion and expertise and for that we are incredibly grateful.

Due to a variety of challenging business circumstances, this after-hours service is scheduled to end on July 1. Fortunately, there are alternatives within UW and the community that while not directly connected to SafeCampus, can provide expert consultation on a variety of safety and wellbeing concerns 24/7, including My SSP providing confidential mental health and crisis intervention support in multiple languages to any UW student and UW CareLink providing confidential and multi-lingual counselors available to any PEBB benefits-eligible UW employee.

You can learn more about these and community resources on the new After-hours resource page. Please note that all of the after-hours alternatives are confidential and will not report concerns to SafeCampus.

The SafeCampus phone line (206-685-7233) will continued to be answered by the team’s violence prevention & response specialists Monday – Friday from 8 am – 5 pm, excluding University holidays. After hour calls will flow to an automated voicemail that guides callers to other options for live support and consultation, in addition to encouraging callers to leave a voicemail for call back on the next business day.

The SafeCampus website has been updated with their new hours. Please review your own department’s communications to make needed adjustments.
