Updated Total Compensation Statements for UW Staff
UWHR released updated total compensation statements on Monday, April 18 for April 1, 2021 – March 31, 2022. Total compensation statements bring visibility to the value of our employee benefits and the generosity of UW time off policies.
Staff in a regular appointment with an FTE of .5 or greater, regardless of length of service, will receive an email from totalcomp@uw.edu inviting them to log-in using their UW NetID and DUO log-in to access their statement. Statements are individualized to each UW staff member, updated annually and accessible on an ongoing basis.
We hope departments will find these total compensation statements useful as an employee retention tool. Heading into warmer months, we also strongly recommend encouraging staff to take time away from work as UW’s generous leave benefits are only valuable to employees who use them. Due to staffing shortages and heavy workloads, many staff feel they are unable to take time off despite having large vacation time off balances. As leaders we can help mitigate concerns by extending deadlines, creating coverage plans and setting the expectation that staff wellbeing and time away to recharge are just as important as everyday work priorities.
The Employee Experience Toolkit, a free resource from POD, is also a useful tool to use in re-engaging staff when there are concerns about belonging, career development and employee retention. You will find practical steps, straightforward pointers and conversation guides to help build rapport, deepen relationships and better understand your employees’ unique perspectives and day-to-day experience at work.
