Time off reminders

With two high profile events planned for this week, please review guidance on responding to staff participation requests and share with your department’s managers as appropriate.

Wednesday, June 10: #ShutDownAcademia #ShutDownSTEM is calling for STEM professionals and academics to take a day away from regular work activities and devote the day to developing a personal action plan focused on eliminating anti-Black racism.

Friday, June 12: Black Lives Matter Seattle-King County is organizing a statewide general strike and silent protest march.

Time away from work to participate in marches, protests, walk-outs, etc. needs to be requested by the employee and approved by their supervisor just like any other time off request. Supervisors are encouraged to be flexible in granting requests, while taking into account operational needs of your unit.

If time off is approved, the employee may use vacation time off, discretionary time off, holiday credit, or compensatory time to cover the absence.

Please contact your HR consultant to discuss requests to use unpaid time off for purposes of faith or conscience.
