Policy updates: Service Animals and Family Care Emergencies

UWHR would like to call your attention to the following new updates to our policy and procedure web pages:

Service animals: It is the policy of the University of Washington to provide individuals with disabilities requiring the use of a service animal an equal opportunity to access University property, courses, programs, and activities. Administrative Policy Statement 46.6 – Service Animals has also been updated to reflect changes in state law.  Effective January 1, 2019, Washington state has limited the definition of service animal to dogs and miniature horses which are individually trained to do work or perform tasks directly related to their owner’s disability.

Family care emergencies: This new web page provides guidance around time off usage for child and elder care emergencies such as the unexpected closure of a child’s school or unexpected absence of a regular care provider.
