Planning for the SR 99 tunnel and viaduct closure

In advance of the longest major highway closure to ever hit the Puget Sound Region, all department leaders and administrators are encouraged to begin planning for what is certain to be an unavoidable traffic disruption for many. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will close SR 99 through Seattle for approximately three weeks beginning on January 11, 2019. During the closure, both the viaduct and the tunnel will be closed and WSDOT is advising drivers to expect up to six weeks of region-wide congestion.

This closure will likely impact business operations, including staffing plans. UWHR’s Work Disruptions Planning web page provides options that apply to each employment program and any required notification steps. Please contact your organization’s HR consultant if you have questions about time off use, establishing temporary telework arrangements or flexible scheduling, or for assistance in developing your organization’s staffing plan.
