About UW Service Recognition Program

Last updated: August 1, 2022

The University of Washington funds the Service Recognition Program in an effort to recognize all regular contract covered, classified, and professional staff and intermittent classified staff for their continuous years of dedicated service to the University. Staff are recognized for each five years of continuous service (e.g., 5, 10, 15, etc.).

UW Human Resources (UWHR) works with managers to ensure that employees are notified of upcoming milestone service awards so that they may select a service award prior to the milestone anniversary.

Service award certificates

UWHR prepares a service recognition certificate and sends it to the employee’s manager when they become eligible to receive a service award.

You can use the certificate templates below if your department prefers different wording than is on the certificate that UWHR provides.

The template is prepared as a PDF linked in step 1 below. To personalize the certificate, you will need Adobe Acrobat or a similar PDF editor.

  1. Download the document
  2. Enter years of service or event to recognize the employee’s contributions
  3. Enter the employee’s name
  4. Enter the department/team/manager/etc. honoring the employee
  5. Provide a signature to formalize the certificate

UW Recognition Awards Shop

The UW Recognition Awards Shop is available so that departments may purchase service recognition awards for librarians and faculty who do not participate in the UW Service Recognition Program, as well as recognize employees with an award for their outstanding work.

UW departments may purchase recognition gifts at a substantial discount directly through the UW Bookstore shop portal. The gift selection provides options that are suitable for every recognition event and budget.
