Professional & Organizational Development

Online learning (webinars)

POD Webinars are presented through a partnership with content provider People-OnTheGo. These live webinars provide another avenue for training and development for busy managers and staff, for UW employees working in remote locations, and for those seeking alternatives to classroom training.

Webinar participants can access live technical support through GoToMeeting at 1-800-263-6317.

Please note that webinars need to be registered for at least one week in advance and space is limited, so be sure to register early to secure your spot.Registration and payment are processed through POD’s catalog and registration system, so once you’ve selected a webinar to take, you will register and submit payment much as you would for any other POD class.

For most webinars, you’ll receive an email with a PDF of the webinar slides before the webinar begins and a link to the recording after the webinar is complete. One exception is webinars in the Accomplishing More With Less series; instead of a PDF with slides, an accompanying handbook is sent to you via campus mail about a week before the start date.A few days before the webinar date, you’ll receive an email with login information and instructions. Make sure to save this email! When the time for your scheduled webinar arrives, click on the web link in the email to access the webinar.

To participate in a webinar, you’ll need three things:

  1. Computer with Internet access: Allows you to view the webinar presentation. POD Webinars can be taken on PCs and Macs; please note that iPads can be used to take live webinars but not to view webinar recordings. (See technical requirements below.)
  2. Headphones or computer speakers: Allows you to hear the webinar instructor. (Alternatively, you can call into the webinar and listen over the phone while viewing on your computer, but long-distance charges will apply.)
  3. Keyboard: Allows you to “chat” with the instructor by typing your comments and questions.

After the webinar is finished, an evaluation form will open in a pop-up window. POD encourages you to complete this form! A link to a recording of the webinar will be emailed to you within three business days after the final webinar session, enabling you to access and review the webinar for up to one month.

For PC-based participants:

  • Internet Explorer 7.0 or newer, Mozilla Firefox 3.0 or newer, or Google Chrome 5.0 or newer (JavaScript and Java enabled)
  • Windows 7, Vista, XP or 2003 Server
  • Minimum of Pentium class 1GHz CPU with 512 MB of RAM (recommended) (2 GB of RAM for Windows Vista)
  • Cable modem, DSL, or better Internet connection

For Mac-based participants:

  • Safari 3.0 or newer, Firefox 3.0 or newer, or Google Chrome 5.0 or newer (JavaScript and Java enabled)

  • Intel processor (512 MB of RAM or better recommended)
  • Cable modem, DSL, or better Internet connection
POD Webinars are offered through a partnership with content provider People-OnTheGo and use GoToWebinar, which is administered by GoToMeeting.

  • If you haven’t received an email with login information two days before your webinar is scheduled, check your junk email folder (the login email will come from an external, non-UW address). If the email is not in your junk email folder, contact pod@uw.edu.
  • If you need technical assistance, live technical support is available through GoToMeeting at 1-800-263-6317.
  • Contact People-OnTheGo at training@people-onthego.com if:
  • You weren’t able to access the webinar evaluation at the end of the webinar session.
  • You didn’t receive an email with a PDF of the webinar slides before the webinar began (please check your junk email first).
  • You haven’t received a link to a recording of the webinar within five business days after the final webinar session (please check your junk email first).
  • For general webinar concerns or questions, contact pod@uw.edu.
  • Before you register for a POD Webinar, make sure you have access to a computer that meets the technical requirements listed above.
  • Save any emails you receive with login information and instructions.
  • On the day of your scheduled webinar, allow yourself plenty of time to follow the instructions and log in to the webinar.
  • Block out time on your calendar just as you would for any other training, meeting, or appointment. Include time for the webinar itself as well as time to prepare, log in, and collect any notes and thoughts afterwards.
  • Make sure you have working headphones that plug into a headphone jack or USB port on your computer or that your computer’s speakers are working. (If you’re in a cube or other open space, headphones are recommended so that you don’t disturb others.)
  • If you tend to take notes during training, make sure to have a pen and paper handy. You may want to print a copy of the slides to take notes on (you will receive a PDF with the slides before the webinar begins).
  • After the webinar, access the recording of the webinar to review the material and reinforce what you’ve learned (you’ll receive a link to the recording within three business days).
