Returning to work after FMLA

When you are ready to return to work from your FMLA leave, contact your supervisor to discuss your department’s return-to-work process.

Same or equivalent job

The FMLA guarantees that you can return to either your same job or an equivalent position, as determined by the University. “Equivalent” is defined as:

  • Same or substantially similar responsibilities and status
  • Same general level of skill and authority
  • Identical pay
  • Identical benefits
  • Same general work schedule at the same (or nearby) location

What happens if my FMLA is exhausted before I can return to work?

If you are not able to return to work on your planned date, contact your supervisor or leave specialist.
