ANIMAL TECHNICIAN SUPERVISOR

Supervises animal technicians in the operation of a centralized animal facility.
Supervises a staff of animal technicians and support personnel; manage a centralized animal center.
With delegated authority, interview and recommend selection of applicants, train new employees, assign and schedule work, act upon leave requests, conduct annual performance evaluations and recommend disciplinary action;
Direct and coordinate in-service training and education program for animal technicians;
Monitor the use of surgical facilities and treatment rooms; ensure cleanliness, sanitation and vermin control;
Maintain inventory of animal feed and supplies; initiate purchase requisitions as needed;
Maintain animal records including records used for research purposes;
Perform administrative tasks, e.g., preparation of cost schedules for animal care;
Perform duties of Animal Technician 3;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified
Two years of experience as an Animal Technician 3 or equivalent;
Eighteen months of experience as an Animal Technician 3 or equivalent and satisfactory completion of an applicable advanced animal technician training course comparable to the program required for certification as an animal technician by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Sciences;
Eighteen months of experience as an Animal Technician 3 or equivalent and two years of college with coursework in animal or life science;
A Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate discipline.
