CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Perform pulmonary function tests on patients; record and report results.

DEFINITION

Prepare patients for and perform routine pulmonary function tests; record data for analysis.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under direct supervision, perform routine pulmonary function tests such as spirometry and lung volume

TYPICAL WORK

Operate pulmonary function equipment while conducting tests such as spirometry, lung volume, diffusing capacity and flow volume loops;

Draw and analyze arterial blood gas specimens;

Screen spirometric tests in outpatient clinics or at bedside;

Administer aerosolized bronchodilators;

Administer topical or subcutaneous local anesthetics;

Collect data; calculate and report results;

Schedule patients for tests;

May assist physicians and/or higher-level Pulmonary Function Technologists in the performance of complex and elaborate testing;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified

Completion of an accredited pulmonary function program

OR

One year of pulmonary function technologist experience.
