CLASS SERIES CONCEPT
Assist in the practice of occupational therapy under the supervision of an occupational therapist.
DEFINITION
Perform occupational therapy assessment and treatment procedures such as dressing and other self-care skills, maintain therapeutic equipment and supplies, perform clerical duties.
DISTINGUISHINGÂ CHARACTERISTICS
Under general supervision, provide and assist with routine occupational therapy services.
TYPICAL WORK
Assist occupational therapist with the patient assessment process; prepare patients and environment for therapy;
Implement treatment; motivate and encourage the patient toward independence in activities of daily living;
Assist in leadership of occupational therapy groups;
Monitor and report patient's response to treatment; modify treatment as directed;
Assist in therapeutic adaptation and/or fabricate equipment and orthotics;
Participate in team reporting and schedule assigned patients;
Document patient progress in medical chart; maintain services related records;
Maintain supplies and therapeutic equipment in a clean, safe working environment;
Participate in orienting student helpers, students, and volunteers;
Perform clerical duties as assigned;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified
Graduate of an approved educational program for Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants
AND
Successful completion of the American Occupational Therapy Association's Occupational Therapy Assistant certification examination
AND
Current Washington State license, or license eligible to practice as an Occupational Therapy Assistant.
Physical ability to move patients and equipment.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
