DEFINITION

Evaluate and process education credentials for admission or graduation.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Positions in this class make evaluations for record regarding admission to the College/University and identification of course equivalency for advanced standing and/or satisfaction of degree requirements.

TYPICAL WORK

Refer academic records and evaluations to department program advisor for acceptance determination;

Check admissions folders for completeness and initiate requests for additional admissions data;

Review credentials of students applying for admission as under-graduate, advanced under-graduates, graduate or as students working toward a second Bachelor's Degree or teacher certification; work may include specialized types of credentials such as credentials of applicants who have not graduated from high school, etc.;

Post information from academic records to admission folders and evaluation sheets, converting work from previous schools into standard units, and posting courses and number of credits which are to be accepted;

Notify applicants of acceptance or denial of admission to the institution;

Review degree applications for completion of required course work as identified in appropriate college catalogs;

Receive all credentials in a specialized area to which assigned; confer with departments concerning their requirements; interpret institution regulations to departments and applicants; etc.;

prepare and process necessary forms to arrange for registration of admitted applicants;

Act as a liaison for institution between department and students;

Answer a variety of general telephone and in-person inquiries form applicants, staff and others; compose and type letters to students as required;

Perform detailed evaluation of academic records for graduation applicants including computation of final GPA's and verification that the general education, distribution, and major requirements have been satisfied; inform applicants of subject matter and grade point deficiencies;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS - Classified Non-Union

High school graduation or GED equivalent, AND one year of admissions or registrar's office experience, or one year's college education.

EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS

A job element examination (including written, E & T, and oral components) scored on the basis of job related experience, training, skill, ability, and other elements which are established through job analysis.
