Benefits

Flu shot clinics

Keep you and your family fully functioning this year by avoiding the flu and getting vaccinated. Every fall, we offer a series of free flu shot clinics across campus for faculty, staff, and retirees. If you’re eligible for PEBB benefits, or you’re a student-employee with a GAIP health plan or ISHIP health plan, view the schedule below and join us at a clinic that’s convenient for you.

Covered dependents between ages 11-17 can attend a flu shot clinic with a parent or guardian (who must also sign the claim/consent form). Dependents age 10 and under should see their health care provider.

No appointment is necessary for any of our clinics, but be sure to bring your insurance card and photo ID.

UW Medicine employees and volunteers

UW Medical Center and Harborview employees and volunteers are required to complete and document their flu shots. Follow directions provided by the hospitals regarding immunization requirements and documentation.

UW Health Sciences students

UW Health Sciences students are required to submit documentation of vaccination (or meet the waiver requirements) to Health Sciences Immunization Program (HSIP) each year, if required by their practicum, clinical, or community placement sites, or if vaccination is part of that school or program’s general immunization policy.

Student flu shots

If you’re a UW student who doesn’t qualify for one of our free clinics, we also offer the flu vaccine on campus at Hall Health. Walk-ins are welcome, but we suggest you call in advance at 206-685-1018 to make sure the vaccine is available. Local pharmacies and grocery stores also carry the vaccine, and to see a list of locations, visit the Flu Vaccine Finder.

Flu shot FAQs

These FAQs are for the 2016 season.

What are Trivalent and Quadrivalent vaccines?
Vaccines that give protection against three viruses are called trivalent vaccines. Vaccines that give protection against four viruses are called quadrivalent vaccines.

Will you be offering the Trivalent or Quadrivalent vaccine?
This year, we’ll offer the Trivalent vaccine, which should cover all strains of flu for this season. However, due to high demand, cost, and insurance provider coverage, we can’t offer the injectable Quadrivalent vaccine this season.

(It’s also worth noting that the Center for Disease Control has chosen NOT to recommend Quadrivalent flu vaccine over the Trivalent.)

Are flu vaccinations preservative free? Do they contain the mercury-based preservative, thimerosal?
The vaccines used at our clinics are preservative free. They contain no thimerosal or mercury.

Where can I get proof of my flu shot vaccination?
Medical center employees and other folks who require documentation of their vaccination can, and should, request a receipt at the time of service. If you lose or forget your receipt, call the vendor directly and request a copy to be sent to you. You’ll need to provide your full name, as well as the date and place where you received your campus flu shot. Contact Getaflushot.com at 877-FLU-SHOT (358-7468).

Where can Harborview employees get a flu shot?
Harborview offers its own flu clinic, and you can contact HMC Employee Health Service at 206-744-3081 for more information.

Where can I get a flu shot if the clinics listed on the schedule are not close to my work OR if the clinic dates have already passed?
Most local pharmacies and several grocery store chains offer the seasonal influenza vaccine. While most providers will bill your plan directly, double check their billing method before getting vaccinated. To see a list of flu shot clinic locations, go to Flu Vaccine Finder.
